Have you ever wondered where they find those beautiful pieces of furniture that adorn the houses of the rich and famous? Read on to reveal 3 quick tips.

Whether you have watched Grand Designs or MTV Cribs, it is more than likely that you would have been in awe of the furniture in the featured homes. The trouble with watching these as design inspiration for your own living room is that they never detail what the pieces of furniture are or where they come from.

In this article, you will find out how, you too, can furnish your home with the luxurious items that feature on some of these programmes.

Centre-Piece

The centre-piece of any living room has to be the coffee-table, which represents both an artistic statement and a practical solution to placing drinks, magazines and feet (for those lazy types) on, whilst you and your guests chat or sit back and watch the television.

A gorgeous choice for this is the Noguchi coffee table – designed in 1944 by the great Isamu Noguchi – which has become a design classic for its simple three piece structure; just two pieces of wood and a 20mm glass top form its beauty. It is available in three finishes; black ash, walnut and maple, to colour-coordinate with almost any room.

Comfort-Reading

Although a selfish choice, an armchair provides the necessary comfort to sit for hours reading your favourite book. No other armchair is better suited to this task than the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.

Charles and Ray Eames – an infamous husband and wife team – created this piece in 1956 and are renown for their iconic chair designs. The chair and ottoman are made from soft leather (including a Nappa leather option, which is extremely luxurious) in five different shades and even the wooden shell can be customised in up to four different colours.

The last two items are both available from Vitra, who have been producing furniture classics since 1957.

Group Discussion

The concluding part of this article focuses on the communal usage of the living room and makes up for the anti-social benefits of the armchair. This is the perfect choice of sofa to while away the hours with friends and family over a glass of tomato juice (or possibly something stronger).

The Oban sofa (available from a boutique furniture store named Dwell in Westfield, London) is of a modular design, which means each piece is one metre square, allowing a plethora of configurations. The range features a corner, armed and ottoman unit so the purchaser can mix-and-match to suit any shape and size of room including corners and U-shaped.

That’s it for now

Hopefully you will have found this useful and perhaps some of the ideas presented here will give you inspiration for other parts of your home!

I'm a fan of Herman Miller. I like their design and their quality. I have been waiting for the last month for officedesigns.com's annual sale. All the stuff is price-cut, and I love their website anyways.
